Thanks for the trip summary. I'm heading to Colorado this summer and Long's is calling my name, though I have a bit of that "gumption trap" trying to talk me out of it. Glad to see you overcame it. It may help me find motivation to do the same thing.

Dear Katie, this is a beautiful story and I'm very proud of you for really listening deeply to your emotions and physical body. I fell 200 feet climbing a 14er because I didn't check in and I let anger and fear control me...that was in 1984. Your dad was my climbing partner.

As I've said before and will always be saying this: These grand mountains are sacred. They are crawled upon by humans for the sheer thrill and ego enhancing highs; some relate to their ascent as a spiritual quest and others for the sheer need to "bag a peak".

For you, this was a spiritual experience whether you acknowledge it in this way or not...you felt the mountain and it's enormity, it's danger and you felt the elements moving through you. The mountain was speaking to you through your feelings, as well as the wind and weather.

I have climbed 15 14'ers in Colorado. After el Diente (the Tooth), and the fall down the avalanche shoot, I received a message that "I had work to do"...this changed my life, as you know. This year I am going back to the Tooth to give offerings of gratitude for the gift it gave me of 'saving my life'. Would you like to come?

Always give gratitude to the sacred mountain; never take it for granted. Never ask for anything from it, never. Leave tobacco as an offering. Better yet, stay off of it! It may call you to a higher purpose and it will be your task to be able to respond.

All my love, MOM
