This Weekend: Vintage European Motorcycles and Rallies

Phew. I just got back from a whirlwind trip to Colorado, and this weekend is the Harvest Classic European and Vintage Motorcycle Rally! I had the day off so I spent it getting amped, rallying my friends, taking care of old-Beemer-related business (like charging batteries and realizing I’m missing a crucial bolt that’s supposed to keep the head cover on my engine), and cleaning the bikes. I’m SO excited for this year’s rally in Luckenbach, Texas, because we missed last year’s. And because we’re going with a gang of buddies. AND because this is the first year my Beemer, Blackbird (or Birdie, for short) is ready to make the trip. I think I’ll enter her in the show and see if we can win a little somethin’.

Here’s what I’ve been working on in preparation for the Rally:

Clean, wax, and adore Birdies’s moving parts. She’s a 1971 BMW R75/5 and doesn’t get as much attention as she maybe deserves. But she’s just a motorcycle. Right?

Check the oil, the fluids, the battery, the tire pressure.
