For the last year Liberty and Lunch has been the creative outlet where I, Katie, have expressed my passions for living a good life. I’ve shared my experiences of traveling, creating new recipes, hiking and exploring my homeland, I’ve made life lists and gear lists, and I’ve even shared some of my dreams.
Today I’m so excited to announce that Liberty and Lunch is growing into something bigger than just myself. With the help of great friends and wonderful supporters, we are welcoming two new contributing writers to our roster of folks that love to share adventure, Tim and Matt!
Tim Morrison hails from Brooklyn, where he’s a professional drummer, producer and a wild pilot of motorcycles. Originally from North Carolina, Tim takes every opportunity he gets to find the mountains by two-lane roads and two-wheeled machines, hugging curves and braving bad weather masterfully and without looking back. I can’t wait to hear Tim’s stories of being on the road – the great times when the cycle runs smooth and the sun is just warm enough, and those crazy moments that would make the fainter of heart turn right around – the stories that make a journey epic.
Matt McElvogue is a Brit who lives and works as a designer in Seattle. He’s an enthusiast of good food and strong good drink and can often be spotted walking his kayak down to Lake Washington for a session on the water. I’d describe Matt style as insouciant erudition – he’s always scanning the next horizon for new knowledge and new experiences. Matt’s been exploring the great Pacific Northwest on foot, learning the ways of nature by trial and error and picking up skills while creating his own path. I’m excited to hear Matt’s perspective of life on the west coast and what he finds in his journey toward spending more time in quality.

While I’m here in the Hill Country these two fine fellows represent the old east and bold west coasts of the great U.S. of A. From the Adirondacks down to windy trails through the Blue Ridge Mountains and Appalachians, and out west – the Olympics, North Cascades, volcanoes and the majesty of the Sierra Nevada, I hope that together we share our experiences across state lines, finding common ground in traveling the land.
I’m honored Matt and Tim want to share their stories with us. Check out the new Contributors Page to learn more about these guys. In the mean time listen up – I’m going to tell you two things you won’t read anywhere about them: Tim DJ’s a dance-your-pants off set of electronica and hip-hop using only his iPhone and is known in some circles as DJ Hot Tub, and Matt has been known to dance ’til dawn in Shanghai’s warehouse clubs, subsisting on nothing but green tea whiskey cocktails. These little-known facts are two things I love about these guys – they’re both full of unexpected wonders! I can’t promise each of our contributions will be that wild, but I’m so excited to share the stories of their sorties.
These tidbits are just the beginning, stay tuned!
Exciting news! Best of luck in your new adventures, and I can’t wait to hear more about what’s in store.
Thanks Lauren! I’m so excited to share new stories too, I can’t wait!
Congrats, Katie!
We can’t wait to see the exciting places L+L will go!
